Technology trends in mobile devices (Business Weekly)

Part of my role as a researcher within BT’s Devices Research Group is to track and understand technology trends in mobile devices, in order to understand the impact that they will have on BT and its customers in the future. I want to share some of those insights with you.

After consulting a few beauty experts, it seems that the trend of tanning may be a thing of the past. Three critics had rather harsh words to say.

Apparently women are no longer allowed to dress to impress. The dress is now officially over much to the chagrin of trend forecasters and mid-market contemporary trade shows. Everyone's favorite Elle editor Anne Slowey has declared “The dress has been done to death."

It feels like just as someone is proclaiming the death of one trend that trend is popping up everywhere. Fashion trend tipping points and mass market bell curves aside, we think proclaiming the death of the dress is a little premature.

Offline access to Web applications is becoming an important trend, with Adobe and Google looking to make the most of this new direction. Representatives of the two companies touted offline access technologies during a presentation at the Web 2.0 Expo conference in San Francisco on Wednesday.

According to InfoTrends’ research, more than half of large organizations have already implemented or are developing an ECM strategy. Of those, a majority are looking to a single ECM platform provider to fulfill their ECM strategy. Given the scope & scale of ECM, there are few vendors that provide the full spectrum of content management solutions.

Sam's Club, the membership warehouse division of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., is limiting how much rice customers can buy because of what it calls "recent supply and demand trends," the company said Wednesday.
